Lt Gen Jack Woodward. General Woodward received his heart transplant on Thursday and all is going well. From Bill Donahue 10/3: 'At
hospital this PM.  They removed his breathing tube about 7:00 PM.  We saw him at 9:00 PM.  He looks remarkably well, is reasonably lucid, and showing a great sense of humor.  Being in the room with his very attentive nursing staff and his family was quite an experience.  Loads of emotion, no dry eyes, and awe struck with the power of modern medical science, support of family and friends and the power of prayer.  The medical team is full of joy and reporting that things are all on track.  They too are full optimism and full of tears of joy. He is not out of the woods yet but my optimism for his full recovery and normal life grows by the minute.' In response to your outpouring of concerns, prayers, and thoughts I talked to Susan and offer the following information and suggestions:
-Jack is at INOVA Fairfax, off Gallows Road and Highway 50.  Will let you know when he can have visitors.
-For now suggest a card, note, or golf supplies to his home
            47061 Kentwood Place
            Sterling, VA 20165
-We are already planning a Spring "Jack is Back Golf" outing details to follow. With his 20 year old heart he gets no strokes, and tees it up from the blue tees. (Bill Donahue)

CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP. For all you corporate folks, this will also be a terrific opportunity to publicize your company through hole sponsorship. Also we encourage you to show your support to the Association through the contribution of door prizes for the barbeque following golf.  Bruce Bohn and Jim Amodeo (yes, we have resurrected Jim from retirement for this special occasion) are running the tournament. Hole sponsorships are $200 per hole.  If you would like to sponsor a hole or contribute to the prize pool, please contact Bruce Bohn.  You can reach him via email at BJBOHN@VERIZON.NET or by phone at 703-626-4446 (cell) or 703-437-3770 (home).

Dear AFC4A Members and Colleagues

The AFC4A Board met recently to discuss issues related to the health of the organization and looking forward to our 2008/2009 season.  Among the items discussed was encouraging retiring members of our community, both officer and enlisted, to join the association.  Several of us have tried to "tap into" the system to identify those retiring AF members but, as can be expected, privacy issues prevail and there isn't one central point to provide us that information.  So we turn to you, our membership and active duty colleagues, to spread the word.

So, we asking for all of our members and colleagues to make our constituents aware of the association and it's benefits.  Most of you are here in the DC area and we understand that all of our activities are focused in this area.  The network opportunities are best here.  However, those of you in other areas (largest concentrations are Texas, Colorado Springs, and Scott AFB area) are also encouraged to become members and receive our notices of lunches and related information.  And when the transition from Air Force blue to the blue pin stripped suit happens, we all find that ours is a small but tight knit community that is spread nation wide.  The value of the AFC4A network is enormous.  I can't tell you how many calls I get from people looking for colleagues in other areas.  Unless they're tied to the Association I usually can't help.

So please help us out.  The website at www.afc4a.org is loaded with information.

CYBER COMMAND-Establishing its Presence: The Air Force's provisional Cyber Command has launched its own Web site. The site includes statements about the importance of cyberspace (click on Library at the top of the page) and news releases from around the Air Force about cyber-related activities. Among these is one we missed, the graduation of  USAF's first network warfare class. The 39th Information Operations Squadron at Hurlburt Field developed the course, which provides 38 days on the basics of warfare in cyberspace. The 39th IOS handles part 2, the in-residence portion of Undergraduate Network Warfare Training, while the Vermont Air National Guard's 229th IOS provides part 1, an Advanced Distributed Learning Course. The service expects to produce 96 network warfare trained airmen each year. (USAF report by 1st Lt. Ashley Conner)

PAUL G. PATTON, COLONEL, USAF (Retired). And now for the rest of the story... As most of you all know, Paul has been a staunch member of our community for over forty years and that as Vice President-Recognition, he leads the  Awards Program for Active Duty C4 Personnel for our AFC4A.  However what you are probably not aware of is the leadership role Paul has undertaken with regard to the mentoring of young Air Force Officer's during their formative years once on Active Duty. Paul continues to serve as an advisor to AFCOMAP today.  The program is called the Air Force Cadet Officer Mentoring Action Program (AFCOMAP) and the story is a great one. We should all be proud to have Paul within our ranks. The following links will take to a recently released story from the Bolling Aviator and a more detailed paper explaining how the entire initiative evolved. Lt Gen John Fairfield has also sent a note to the CSAF regarding Paul's efforts. Congratulations Paul!!!

For the 2007 AFC4A AWARDS PROGRAM FOR ACTIVE DUTY C4 PERSONNEL,  the AFC4A has appropriated $20,000.00 in savings bonds to be awarded according to the nomination packages received from this years SAF/XC selected AFC4 organizations.  The program will be briefed at RETGO and the program should be concluded by the end of June.  If you would like more information on this program, please contact Colonel Paul G. Patton, USAF (Ret.) at EMAIL.
